THEUNISSEN – The police in Theunissen are investigating a case of child abandonment after a newborn infant was discovered and rescued yesterday afternoon.
A man and his cousin were walking near the hiking spot along the R30 at Theunissen on Friday 12 December at about 15:00, when a man unknown to them informed them about a baby underneath a tree in the vicinity.
The good Samaritans searched the area and found a male infant, a few days old.
The baby was wearing a beige baby grow with a
grey baby hat, and was wrapped in a grey-coloured baby fleece blanket with white dots.
As rain was imminent, the travellers took the infant home and immediately contacted the Theunissen police and emergency medical services (EMS). The medical team transported the baby boy to a local hospital for medical observation and care.
The Theunissen SAPS has opened a case of child abandonment and are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in locating the mother or any family members of the abandoned child.
