National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams remains in custody

National Coloured Congress MP Fadiel Adams appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday on two counts of defeating the ends of justice and three counts of fraud.

The charges relate to allegations that he interfered with the investigation into the 2017 murder of ANC Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa.

The case was postponed to Wednesday, May 13, 2026. A location has been arranged where Adams will be remanded. The location will only be shared with Adams’s legal team and his family. He is not allowed to disclose his location to anyone.

The State says Adams has shown defiant behaviour and even pronounced profanity towards the court, which will appear in the Investigating Officer’s report. The State says that there is information about the interference of State witnesses, prior to Adams’s appearance in court on Thursday.

According to information, Adams was arrested at the Parliamentary Village of Pelican Park in Cape Town on Tuesday.

The Political Killings Task Team had issued a J50 warrant for Adams, who faces charges of fraud and defeating, or obstructing, the course of justice. SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the warrant relates to serious allegations that Adams interfered with investigations at a sensitive and advanced stage.
