The New York Road Runners (NYRR) organisation reported that 59 226 runners finished the prestigious New York City Marathon on 2 November. This surpassed the marathon’s record for the second consecutive year.
Welkom runners Nkhetheni Masupa and Abe Nkomo were among the bevy of international runners who vied for top positions.
“Running transforms lives, as every kilometre becomes a lesson in discipline; every challenge on the course an opportunity to grow; and every finishing line a testament to how perseverance can unlock new possibilities,” says Masupa.

The two put out sterling performances that saw them taking position 661 (2:44:11) and 476 (2:40:42), respectively, out of 59 226 runners.
“I am very proud for both of us achieving these results. Our hard work was recognised,” Masupa added.
