CAPE TOWN – Western Cape provincial commissioner, lieutenant-general Sizakhele Dyantyi has established a multidisciplinary team led by serious violent crime detectives to investigate after 10 people were shot and killed in Lwandle in the early hours of Sunday 27 September.

Official police reports indicate that gunmen entered an entertainment place that also sells braaied meat (shisanyama) at 01:46 and shot at patrons.

Five people died at the scene while five others succumbed to their injuries after being transported to medical facilities. Eleven others are receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained. Lwandle police have opened murder and attempted murder cases.

Detectives are searching for the perpetrators of the shooting incident, but no arrests have been made yet.

The identities of the deceased will be released once their next of kin are informed. Police management has increased deployment to the area while the search for the gunmen continues.
