DURBAN – A man, Matthew Reece (37) has been remanded in police custody after appearing before the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 03 October. He faces charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to a SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, during September 2025, members from Ilembe Crime Intelligence gathered information about an individual suspected of being in possession of unlicensed firearms.

After employing various strategies, the information was verified as positive.

He added that a search and seizure warrant was applied for and subsequently granted by the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court.

On Thursday, 02 October 2025, a multi-disciplinary operation comprising Ilembe Crime Intelligence, uMhlali Task Team, KwaDukuza Tactical Response Team, uMhlali Vispol, and IPSS Security Services was conducted at a residence in Palm Lakes.

“During the search, police discovered two rifles, one pump-action shotgun, and 78 shotgun rounds,” Magwaza said.
