Man (56) crushed to death while working on vehicle in Hermanus

With his wife and daughter on the scene, a 56-year-old man died on Tuesday in a devastating garage accident when he was crushed by a vehicle he was repairing.

According to reports, the deceased was underneath the vehicle attaching linkages as he replaced the car’s engine just a month prior.

The police said to Hermanus Times that early reports indicate that while repairing the vehicle, it allegedly slipped from a jack and pinned him underneath.

“The vehicle was jacked up in the air and a paver and wooden planks were placed under the vehicle and the tyre,” said the police. The incident occurred at Station Mall in Hermanus.

Reportedly, the vehicle was parked and stationary in an underground parking. “It is believed the jack deflated and the vehicle lowered onto the deceased person,” the police said.

An inquest has since been opened for investigation.
