The OR Tambo Stock Theft Task Team arrested a 33-year-old man, after he was found in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle in Qumbu last night, 19 August.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo, it is alleged that on Tuesday, 19 August around 23:00, members who were on routine patrol in the area between Sulenkama and Qumbu to curb stock theft incidents received information of a stolen bakkie and followed up.

He said members managed to locate and stop the bakkie in Blackhill locality.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the bakkie, which was using false registration number plates, was stolen in Ntabankulu in December 2024.

“The driver (33), who is from Mahlungulu locality, Qumbu, was arrested and charged for possession of stolen property,” he reported.

He is due to appear in the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 21 August, with a possibility of additional charges at a later stage of the investigation.

OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, applauded the members for their sterling work of fighting crime since the formation of the task team.
