The men’s team from Bishop Lavis cricket club secured a second consecutive bonus point win when they tamed Kuilsriver by five wickets this past weekend.
Kuilsrver opted to bat first and showed good early intention with an opening partnership of 89 runs between Sheldon Adams (50) and Siya Nyawose (35). The introduction of spinner Mikhail Isaacs, again worked well for the visitors as he bowled Adams when the Kuilsriver openers were about to threaten the Lavis bowling attack.
The host finished on 201 runs with Darryn Papier (22) and Nathan Swarts (21) chipping in with the bat.
Isaacs ended his bowling spell on 2/29 with spinning partner, Simeon Fondling finishing best of the Lavis bowlers with 3/39.
Bevan Abrahams (58) and Emilo Koeberg (50) continued with their impressive batting performances and helped Lavis reached the target of 202 in the 38th over, securing them a well deserved bonus point.
Other players who helped reach the bonus point winning score were Natheer Rodgers (26), Simeon Fondling (23) and Cheslyn Roberts (32).
Praise
After the match, captain Bevan Abrahams was full of praise for his men with their impressive all-round performance.
“We are showing good progress and positivity in all the facets of the game, and our pre-season preparations are paying off,” said Abrahams.
The club’s second team also secured their second consecutive bonus point win when they beat Strand Cricket Club by four wickets. Strand batted first and was bowled out for 117. For the men from Lavis, Marcelino St Jerry and Antonio Bagley were the best of the bowlers with each taking three wickets.
Shaun James (29) and captain Byron Brown (22*) were the best with the bat for the men from Lavis in this low scoring affair.
