Stulting Primary School continued with their annual community project of reaching out to elderly residents on May 3. Building on last year’s success, they again assembled care packages for the Ons Tuiste Old Age Home in Humansdorp.

Students, teachers, and volunteers came together to assemble 170 care packages filled with winter essentials, including beanies, scarves, socks, and gloves, alongside treats such as biscuits, rusks, chocolates, and instant soup powder sachets, ensuring that every corner of the old age home, from its various facilities to its individual departments, all receive their own personalised care package.

Each resident also received a handwritten letter, accompanied by a daily devotional book.

“Visiting the old age home last Friday was truly humbling,” said Nicole de Raedt, a teacher involved in the project. “Seeing the wisdom and grace in the eyes of the elderly as we shared blessings together, was a profound experience that touched my heart deeply. It brought tears to my eyes realising that some of the elderly never receive visitors. It reminded me of the importance of compassion and connection in our lives.”

Behind the scenes, numerous individuals and organisations have played large roles in making the initiative a reality. From businesses such as Libstar Group and Solidariteit Helpende Hand, Humansdorp branch, to local supporters like Corné Olivier and Marike Smith, each contribution has been great in enriching the lives of the elderly residents.

Stulting Primary extends their thanks to all its learners and parents for their unwavering support, as well as to the countless volunteers who have lent their time and effort to this cause.
