Hankey residents face two-week water supply interruption

HANKEY – Residents, businesses and farms in and around Hankey are set to experience water supply interruptions from 18 July to 1 August, as the Gamtoos Irrigation Board undertakes its annual maintenance shutdown, affecting the raw water supply to the municipal water treatment works.

According to a Kouga Municipality statement, affected areas include Hankey, Phillipsville, Centerton, Silver Town, Weston and surrounding farms and rural settlements supplied by the Hankey water distribution system.

“Water tankers will be deployed to affected areas where required,” the municipality said.

The statement also encouraged residents to store sufficient water for domestic use before the shutdown commences and to use water sparingly throughout the shutdown period.

“Priority will be given to schools, clinics, old-age homes, and other essential services. Updates regarding water availability and tanker schedules will be communicated through the municipality’s official communication platforms,” the municipality said.

The municipality also requested that residents ensure all water storage containers are clean and properly covered to prevent contamination.

“The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused and appreciates the cooperation and understanding of all affected residents during this period of essential maintenance and water management activities,” the municipality said.
