NO fewer than 14 gymnasts from the Aqua Rhythmic Gymnastics Club are set to participate at the 16th World Gymnaestrada in Austria next year.
Held every fourth year, the event is the world’s biggest general gymnastics festival sporting some 25 000 top-gymnasts from 50 nations.
There are numerous costs for this event: air fare, accommodations, meals, attire, transport, passports and visas.
To help raise funds, the club will host various events during the year.
First on their fundraising calendar is a fashion show and competition, as well as a fitness bootcamp hosted by well-known international model and actor Jay Dengle (27).
The event will take place at Fountains Mall in Jeffreys Bay on Saturday, July 28, and is open to boys and girls of all ages. Participants must wear their best outfit and do their own hair and make-up.
“As a young kid I never had the money to pursue my sport dreams. I had to work very hard without any support. Now, I want to give others what I never had. The youth is the future of the country,” says Dengle who can be seen in the television commercial for The Bachelor South Africa.
Born in Welkom, Dengle lived in Asia for the past few years where he was a celebrity fitness trainer and vegan nutritionist. He has his own online fitness academy, J-FIT.
Registration will take place from 09:00 to 11:00, while the fitness bootcamp is from 09:30 to 10:30. The bootcamp will be followed by rehearsals from 11:00 to 13:00, before the models in the u.16 age category take to the stage at 13:30. Participants older than 16 years, will compete at 13:45.
Local singer Menno Mostert will entertain the audience from 14:00 to 14:45, followed by a show by the gymnasts at 15:00.
Prize-giving will take place at 15:20.
Loads of prizes will be up for grabs, including three professional photoshoots valued at R10 000 each and an online customised fitness and diet plan valued at R6 000.
The entry fee for participants is R50, while the entry fee for audience members is R30 per person.
