JEFFREYS BAY – A local church and community members are set to roll up their sleeves for a clean-up campaign at Jeffreys Bay Comprehensive High School on 30 May.
Impact Church, based in Ocean View, Jeffreys Bay, together with friends and volunteers, will host the initiative from 07:00.
Community members are being encouraged to take part in the clean-up at the school, with gloves to be provided for those who join.
According to Pastor Alfred Jongile, the motivation behind the campaign is rooted in a strong connection to the school.
“We decided that we wanted to start a clean-up initiative because we love the school,” said Jongile.
He described the current condition of the school grounds as needing attention, noting that the grass is overgrown and encroaching on the paving areas.
Jongile said that the relationship between Impact Church and the school stems from the church’s focus on service during May.
“During the month of May, our church’s sermon theme is focused on serving. In line with this, we asked the school for permission to clean the premises, putting this message into practice by serving and giving back to the school community,” said Jongile.
He emphasised that schools are professional spaces and that children deserve to be taught in a clean and well-maintained environment.
The clean-up campaign will include a range of activities such as cutting grass, cleaning windows and picking up litter.
Jongile said that around 100 volunteers from across Jeffreys Bay are expected to take part.
While the immediate focus is on the school, he said that there are plans to expand such efforts.
“For now, we will focus on Jeffreys Bay Comprehensive and later in the year start a similar initiative in other parts of the community,” said Jongile.
