The covers of the big four man canoe has
been taken off and it will be operating for charity once more this coming weekend during the Great Fish
River canoe marathon on 8 and 9 October.

According to Chris Matthews, a member of
the crew, this K4 is the same boat that was paddled on the Fish a couple of
years ago.

“We’ve had to repair a few
dents and cracks, but yes, this is the same old lady that battled the Fish’s
stormy waters a couple of years ago,” he explained.

Because the crew members are all from the
Rhodes Rowing Club in Makhanda (Grahamstown), it
has been decided that the funds collected will be shared between Grahamstown
Hospice and Cradock Cancer Care.

Part of the funds they aim to collect will
come from the raffling of a Fenn paddle and a Starsky splash cover, as well as
the “Spot the Croc competition” where the prize goes to the first paddler to
find the stuffed crocodile along the side of the river.

Look out for the K4 on Friday and
Saturday. It will be manned by Chris
Matthews, Ann and Carol Cuthbert and Gavin Shuter.
