TENSIONS concerning the Eskom fiasco are currently running high, particularly in Cradock and Middelburg, with no end in sight yet to the issue.

Inxuba Yethemba municipal manager, Xolela Msweli, recently released an update to the community that reads as follows:

“Inxuba Yethemba Municipality would like to update all its community members of both Cradock and Middelburg, as well as all media houses of the status of the Eskom matter.

“Please be informed that as at the last council meeting, Inxuba Yethemba Municipality took a resolution not to continue with the case against Eskom over the debt owed to them.

“We would also like to inform all the above mentioned that Inxuba Yethemba Municipality has advised Eskom about an out of court settlement decision but no response has been received yet from Eskom.

“We would also like to ensure our community that the interdict against Eskom still stands until such time that the judge decides to rescind it, furthermore ensuring that there will be no further power cuts because of the interdict.

“We have received information that there are rumours going around that there will be some power (cuts) for wards 4 to 6 next week.

“It’s important to note that we still have the resolve to settle this impasse between ourselves and Eskom soonest to bring about certainty on this matter.

“To this extent, a meeting request has been sent to Eskom.

“We will keep you abreast with the developments accordingly.”
