EZIBELENI-based ABC Motsepe League side, Amavarara FC, beat PE Stars 4–1 at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex in Komani on Saturday to move two points clear at the top of the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League standings.
Striker, Athenkosi Lafota, and midfielder, Sihle Maso, scored two goals each to secure the home side all three points, as Thomas Tshabalala’s side claimed their sixth win in seven games this season.
The result has, without a doubt, proven that the Chris Hani District-based side is the team to beat in the title race this season, but their Bloemfontein-born mentor, Tshabalala, has downplayed that.
“It is only three points, but on the other hand, for the club to build a brand and re-putation of possessing a winning mentality is important,” Tshabalala said.
“There are the so-called 10 habits of confident people, and I think we displayed that by showing confidence, taking action and by putting on a display with purpose. I think we are on the right track if everybody keeps their feet on the ground and not get ahead of ourselves.
Amavarara are still at the top of the log for the sixth week this season with 18 points, while PE Stars are in fifth place with 13 points, five points behind the log leaders.
Amavarara will take a break in the league as they will be playing in the Provincial Nedbank Cup Play-offs final against SAB League side, Tede United Brothers, at the Bisho Stadium on Saturday.
“Our attention shifts to our next game on Saturday, a big Nedbank Cup game against the SAB League side from Buffalo City Metro where we are expecting another big crowd. So we will prepare ourselves for that game,” concluded Tshabalala.
