THE U/19 Border Cricket and U/17 Border Cricket Rural teams to take part in this year’s U/19 Coca Cola Khaya Majola Week and the U/17 Week were announced last week by Border Cricket in East London.

Both teams will be carrying the hopes of the Border region as they battle it out against the best schoolboy rugby talent from across the country, with all the teams going all out to make it into the main game of the week.

Even though they did not have one of the greatest starts this year due to COVID-19 pandemic Komani’s Queen’s College Boys’ High School has five players selected to represent the Border in the two teams.

Talented Bryan Muir and Litha Mgcoyi are both included in the U/19 Border Cricket Team that will participate in the U/19 Coca Cola Khaya Majola Week in Potchefstroom from December 18-22, while Kamva Mkapu, Ryan Denston and Bevaneo Maytham were selected to play in the U/17 Week squad in Pretoria from 13-17 December.

The boys will also get a chance to showcase their talent in front of SA Schools national selectors with the chance for the boys to get into the U/19 World Cup Squad.

Retired professional cricketer, Rowan Richards, who joined Queen’s in 2019 as the U/19 Assistant Coach, said these games are very important for the boys.

Richards played for Easterns at the end of his career but also played for Border, Northerns, the Momentum Multiply Titans and the Warriors in his long and illustrious career.

Queen’s also congratulated Gabriel de Jongh on his selection to represent Border Golf Union at the U/19 Inter Provincial Tournament at the Kimberley Golf Club on 18 December.
