ON Sunday, Queen’s College Boys’ High hosted the Inaugural Cricket T10 blast at the Parry Davies Fields in Komani.
The T10 Blast was launched last week at the school and it saw the junior school boys sharing the locker rooms with their first team heroes at the college.
The tournament had six teams taking part on the day, with each team consisting of two first team players, two second team players, two third team players, three U15 players and three U14 players.
Queen’s College cricket coach, Rowan Richards, said, they had launched this fun and shorter version of the game to promote cricket at the school.
“The reason we launched this was to promote the sport and to make sure that our U14s and U15s share the same field and change rooms with their seniors so that they can learn from them while playing for the same team.
“It is always nice to play with someone you look up to and that will also encourage the boys to even work harder,” said Richards, who played for Northerns Cricket Team in 2015 Africa T20 Cup.
The eventual winners of the Queen’s College Inaugural Cricket T10 blast were Beswick Cobras who were sponsored by Komani Fuels and coached by Siyabonga Lusiba and Gordon Plaatjes. Cobras beat Queen’s College Lions in the first ever final of the tournament.
The Queen’s College Boys’ High class of 1987 donated a cake to the winning team.
Cobras’ captain, Bryan Muir, after a sterling performance on the day, was named the player of the tournament, while Lions’ Mbasa Thomas won the bowler of the tournament award.
