District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph has
welcomed the sentencing of five suspects who were sentenced to life
imprisonment at the Cradock High Court on June 27, for conspiracy to murder,
murder, attempted murder, and rape.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, in
October 2023, Masixole Mbulali and his girlfriend were attacked while
they were sleeping in their home in Nxuba (formally Cradock).
She said Mbulali was murdered while his girlfriend survived.
Mdleleni further said the investigation was conducted for murder,
attempted murder, and rape and the case was assigned to investigating officer, Sergeant Leonita Eyssen.
She said five suspects, Masixole Sokoti (18), Sinetemba
Pani (25), Sizwesetu Jonas (32), Zizipo Pani (32), and Siyamthemba James (38)
were arrested.
“It was revealed that the motive for the attack was to claim
from the insurance that they had for Mbulali’s girlfriend who survived,”
said Mdleleni.
She said on June 27, the five suspects were found guilty and
sentenced to life imprisonment.
Adolph
congratulated Eyssen from Cradock SAPS for her unwavering dedication and
perseverance in bringing the criminals to justice.
“The exemplary investigation not only led to a successful
conviction but reinforced the community’s trust in the effectiveness of our
investigation,” said Adolph.
