Paarl’s “King Lee” Chakwenya has added another win to his professional boxing record after defeating Justin Campher by a unanimous decision in Cape Town on Saturday (5 September).

The four-round middleweight bout formed part of Fight Island 6: Three Crowns and was held at Makers Landing at the V&A Waterfront.

The victory takes Chakwenya’s professional record to 2-0, following his debut in Zimbabwe, where he won by third-round technical knockout.

For the boxer, however, the latest victory is about more than another number on his record.

“Every time I step into the ring I carry more than my own ambitions,” Chakwenya said after the fight.

“I carry where I come from, the people who believe in me, the athletes I coach and everyone who has supported my journey. I am grateful for the community I have in Paarl and excited to have won in Cape Town.”

Chakwenya developed his skills in the amateur boxing circuit, competing in the light-middleweight and middleweight divisions. He previously represented Zimbabwe at the Mandela African Boxing Cup in April 2024 as a member of the national boxing squad.

When he is not training or fighting Chakwenya coaches at Titans MMA in Paarl, where he works with aspiring fighters.

He is also involved in anti-bullying campaigns at schools in the Cape Winelands. According to a statement issued on his behalf the initiatives teach young people that true strength is demonstrated through discipline, restraint and courage rather than intimidation.

Away from the gym Chakwenya is a barista and entrepreneur.

His Christian faith is another important part of his journey.

“For everything I have and every opportunity that comes my way I give the glory to Jesus Christ,” he said.

“Boxing is part of my journey, but my purpose is bigger than winning fights. I want the way I live, the way I treat people and the way I use every opportunity to reflect what I believe.”

Chakwenya’s professional record now stands at 2-0.
