LONDON — King Charles III will deliver a personal video message about his ongoing cancer battle during a televised broadcast Friday evening, according to Britain’s PA news agency.

The 77-year-old monarch, who announced his cancer diagnosis earlier this year, will appear on television at 20:00 GMT as part of the network’s “Stand Up to Cancer” campaign, a joint initiative with Cancer Research UK.

The pre-recorded address, filmed late last month at Clarence House, the King’s London residence, is expected to highlight the critical role of screening programs in early cancer detection, PA reported. Buckingham Palace declined to provide additional details when contacted Friday.

Charles first revealed his cancer diagnosis in February 2024, after the disease was discovered during routine prostate surgery. The palace has not disclosed the specific type of cancer affecting the King.

Following the announcement, Charles temporarily stepped back from public duties before returning to his royal schedule in April. His medical team expressed optimism about his recovery, though he continues to receive ongoing treatment.

The King has previously described his cancer diagnosis as “a daunting and at times frightening experience.” Despite his health challenges, he has maintained an active public presence, conducting royal visits across Britain and traveling internationally to Canada and the Vatican.

In March, Charles was briefly hospitalised due to side effects from his cancer treatment, but has since resumed his duties.

Friday’s broadcast caps a week of fundraising events and celebrity challenges leading up to the Stand Up to Cancer telethon, which aims to raise money for cancer research and patient support services.

The King’s appearance underscores his commitment to cancer awareness advocacy during his personal health journey.
