VIRGINIA – Multiple Social Crime Prevention units and Community Policing Forum members searched 704 learners at Marematlou Secondary School in Meloding on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, as part of the ongoing Safer Schools Programme.
The operation involved learners from grades 10 to 12. Prohibited items were seized during the search.
Learners were addressed on bullying, possession of dangerous weapons, gangsterism, assault, substance abuse and gender-based violence. The awareness session focused on positive behaviour, respect for the law and maintaining a safe school environment.

The search was conducted in an orderly manner, with authorities stating learners’ rights and dignity were respected.
Social Crime Prevention units from Meloding SAPS, Hennenman SAPS, Ventersburg SAPS and Thabong SAPS participated in the operation, along with Meloding Community Policing Forum members.
SAPS units and CPF structures plan to continue regular school safety operations. Awareness campaigns addressing gender-based violence, substance abuse and domestic violence will be implemented. Partnerships with school management and parents will be strengthened.
