England’s Jake Bolton captured his first professional title with a commanding final-round 67 at the 10th Betway Big Easy Tour event at Ebotse Links on Thursday, finishing eight-under for the week to secure a two-shot victory.
The 27-year-old began the final round two strokes off the lead but demonstrated exceptional composure to overturn the deficit. Bolton’s bogey-free front nine of 32 laid the foundation for his breakthrough triumph, as he maintained steady control throughout the pressure-packed round.
Bolton navigated the challenging back nine with remarkable patience and precision, carding two birdies against a single bogey to seal his maiden professional victory. The Englishman, who turned professional in 2021 following the Walker Cup, expressed overwhelming emotion after his round.
“This is my first pro win,” said Bolton. “I turned pro in 2021 after the Walker Cup and right now, I’m just over the moon. I can’t explain how I’m feeling at the moment. All the graft, everything that goes into the daily process to get better, and finally I got over the line.”
Bolton credited his game plan and amateur experience for his successful pursuit of the title. “I knew I had to get off to a fast start. I made an early birdie and made an important par just off the second green and that kind of settled the nerves a little bit,” he explained. “Then, I sort of relied on my experience a little bit. I previously won as an amateur, so that kind of experience always helps when it’s pressure time.”
Oliver Goldhill and Andrew Williamson shared second place at six-under, finishing two strokes behind Bolton. Williamson impressed with a near-perfect final-round 65, whilst Goldhill’s 71 secured him another runner-up finish. Despite missing out on victory, both players delivered strong performances that will boost their confidence heading into the season finale.
The event marked the conclusion of the regular season, with attention now turning to next week’s Play Off at Modderfontein Golf Club. Only the top 50 players on the Order of Merit qualify for the season-ending championship. Bolton has surged to 22nd in the standings, whilst Goldhill sits fifth and Williamson occupies 26th position.
The Betway Big Easy Tour serves as the Sunshine Tour’s feeder circuit and enjoys support from legendary South African golfer Ernie Els, among other prominent patrons.
