Interns needed for prison services in fields like theology and law


There’s just two days left for graduates to apply for internship positions in the public sector in a variety of fields, including theology, engineering, legal services and psychology, nationwide.

The call forms part of the Department of Correctional Services’ 2026 Public Service Graduate Internship Programme.

Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend of R8 174,75 for 24 months. The programme is open to unemployed graduates who hold a relevant national diploma or degree.

Positions are available at the National Head Office and regional offices across the country. The department states that preference will be given to candidates who support its representivity objectives.

About the programme

The internship provides structured workplace exposure, mentorship from experienced professionals and practical skills development in the public sector. It is designed to improve graduates’ chances of future employment by giving them hands-on experience in real working environments.

Positions are available in the following fields:

  • Built Environment (Architectural Technology, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering)
  • Legal Services (Bachelor of Laws)
  • Finance (Financial Accounting, Financial Management)
  • Information Technology
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Theology
  • Correctional Services Management (Correctional Sciences, Penology, Criminology, Security Management)
  • Occupational Health and Safety (Safety Management, Environmental Management)
  • Agriculture (Animal Production, Plant Production, Horticulture, Food Production, Food Technology, Food and Consumer Science)
  • Clothing and Textile (Pattern Making, Clothing Design) — available in the Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West region only
  • Artisan trades (Plumbing, Electrical, Bricklaying, Welding, Motor Mechanic, Upholstery, Carpentry, Fitting)
  • Applications may be sent by email, hand delivered or posted to the provincial office responsible. More details is available online. Applications close on 9 July.
