Armed-response companies and security organisations in and around Hermanus use excellent communication and the latest technology to track suspects down. One such incident played itself out in Onrus recently.
Martin Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager at Fidelity ADT, reported that a camera operator at the Onrus Vermont SRA control desk (staffed and managed by Fidelity ADT) noticed two men walking through the area acting in a suspicious manner on Wednesday 7 June, shortly after 08:00.
“They were carrying two bags with them with what appeared to be light fittings,” he said.
“The shared Fidelity ADT/OVSRA response vehicle was alerted to make its way to Hawston while members of the Afriforum Alfa Neighbourhood Watch were also asked to assist.”
The shared response vehicle made its way to Hawston while the Alfa Neighbourhood Watch team launched its drone to assist with tracking the suspects’ movement.
The two men were soon spotted when they exited the bushy area.
“One of the suspects managed to evade apprehension while his alleged accomplice was detained,” Boshoff stated. “The bags were searched and contained three outdoor lights and a security camera. A resident of Vermont later confirmed the items had been stolen from his property.
“He also explained he had video footage of the two men stealing the items.
“Well done to everyone who coordinated their response in this incident. The suspect was taken into custody by the police on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.”
Safety and security in the Onrus Vermont Special Rating Area are co-managed by the Onrus Vermont SRA NPC, Fidelity ADT, Afriforum Alfa Buurtwag, OnVerWag Neighbourhood Watch, Protection Services and the police.
