Hermanus police took a suspect into custody on Wednesday 11 September when he was found with items that could be used to commit a house break-in.

“The CCTV team at Onrus Vermont SRA picked a suspect up who was walking through the area around 05:25 carrying a large bag. His behaviour and the time of day raised suspicions.”

The area’s dedicated armed-response vehicle was asked to respond while members of the Alfa Neighbourhood Watch also assisted. The suspect tried to evade being detained but he was quickly apprehended.

“On further investigation he was confirmed to be well-known to local law enforcement officers,” said Marius Boshoff. “The bag in his possession contained implements that could be used to commit housebreaking and he was handed over into police custody.”

The Onrus Vermont Special Rating Area NPC is managed by a Board of Directors elected by the community of Ward 13, Overstrand. Their vision is to be a safe and healthy community where everyone can prosper. They work closely with Fidelity ADT, AfriForum Alfa Buurtwag, OnVerWag Neighbourhood Watch, Protection Services and the police through various safety-and-security groups.
