A tip-off from members of the community led to the arrest of a 43-year old woman found in possession of a large amount of drugs with an estimated street value of R8 500. Captain Raldeen Atson, spokesperson for Grabouw police, reported that officers searched the premises in Beverley Hills informal settlement on Saturday 8 April, after following-up on information regarding drug smuggling. “On arriving at the address,” Atson related, “police searched the premises and confiscated 156 full Boss Mandrax tablets, two half-Mandrax tablets, 36 quarters and 70 tik straws and arrested the female suspect.” The woman appeared in Grabouw Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 11 April for possession of drugs. Two more suspects were arrested on Tuesday 11 April in Khutsong informal settlement in separate incidents for possession of large quantities of drugs. These successes, said Atson, were also the result of tip-offs from the community. “A 28-year old man was arrested after 89 tik straws with an estimated street value of R 1 780 were found in his possession.
