The SA Air Force Technology Show, held on 21 March at the Air Force Base Overberg in Bredasdorp, was described as “a historic and inspiring occasion, bringing cutting-edge aviation and emerging technologies to the public in a family-friendly environment.”

This much-awaited air display at Air Force Base Overberg was the the first of its kind at the base in nearly 15 years. Visitors had the rare opportunity to witness some of the South African Air Force’s finest pilots demonstrating their skill and precision in a range of aircraft, including the impressive Hawk jets currently undertaking training flights.

The Technology Show also featured a wide array of modern aviation and robotics innovations, including remote-controlled aircraft demonstrations, drone technology exhibits, and interactive displays that showcase the rapidly evolving world of aerospace engineering and unmanned systems. These exhibits are designed not only to entertain but also to educate and inspire future generations.

According to a spokesperson one of the key objective of the event is to encourage young South Africans to explore careers in STEM fields – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. “By bringing advanced technologies and aviation expertise directly to the public organisers hope to spark curiosity among learners and students, while highlighting the important role these disciplines play in shaping the nation’s future.”

The event also seeks to strengthen the relationship between the public and the South African Air Force “while contributing to social cohesion, community pride and nation-building.”
