The Hermanus Music Society will bring its 2025 concert series to a close with an enchanting evening of violin and harp music featuring international duo Shigatsu, performing at the Gereformeerde Church in Sandbaai on 21 November.
The final concert of the society’s traditional seven-event calendar has been scheduled a week earlier than usual to accommodate the busy end-of-year period, following the absence of an October performance. Performers Gilah Kellner (violin) and Ricardo Hiniker (harp) have chosen the name Duo Shigatsu in tribute to their shared passion for the acclaimed anime series Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa kimi no uso). The series tells the story of virtuosic violinist Kaori and brilliant post-trauma pianist Kousei, themes that resonate deeply with the musical duo.
The evening’s programme will reflect this Japanese influence, featuring two compositions by Joseph Molnar, founder and president of the Nippon Harp Society. The concert begins at 17:45 with registration and wine, followed by canapés before the 18:30 performance. The musical programme will be complemented by carefully selected wine pairings, featuring Spookfontein Opera 2022 and Full Moon 2024 – a decidedly non-Japanese alternative to sake that organisers note is “suitably musical”.The Hermanus Music Society requires advance confirmation of attendance by 18 November for catering purposes.
R200 per person through electronic transfer to the Hermanus Music Society’s Standard Bank account (00082262969). Proof of payment will serve as booking confirmation. For more information contact the organisation directly.
