Music lovers are in for a treat as the Hermanus Music Society presents its highly-anticipated third concert of the season, featuring the dynamic Cape Town-based Novo Duo on Thursday, 27 March.
The evening will showcase the remarkable musical partnership between Josie McClure on saxophone and Seung-Ree Lee on piano, two accomplished musicians whose collaboration began during their studies at Stellenbosch University in 2021.
“Having discovered a passion for collaboration and a desire to explore the expressive possibilities of saxophone and piano music, they bring deep musical connection and thoughtful artistry to every performance,” organisers say.
The duo’s repertoire spans classical and contemporary works, promising an evening of diverse musical experiences. Highlights include Takashi Yoshimatsu’s whimsical “Fuzzy Bird Sonata”, Fernande Decruck’s dramatic “Sonata in C-sharp for Alto Sax and Piano”, and François Borne’s virtuosic “Fantaisie Brillante” based on Bizet’s Carmen. The programme also features works by Eugene Bozza, Darius Milhaud’s beloved Scaramouche and Jean Matitia’s spirited “The Devil’s Rag”.
The evening begins at 17:45 with wine and canapés at the Dutch Reformed church in Bergsig Street, Sandbaai, the concert commencing at 18:30. Carefully-selected wine pairings include Beaumont Chenin Blanc 2023 Magnums and Raoul’s Red Blend 2023. Booking essential: Attendance confirmation required by Tuesday 24 March for catering purposes. Non-member tickets cost R250 per person via EFT to Hermanus Music Society, Standard Bank account 00082262969.
