The Department of Transport and Public Works has announced that road closures will no longer be in place along the R44 Clarence Drive between Gordon’s Bay and Rooi Els. Instead, stop-and-go systems will be in place until further notice.

The road was closed after heavy rains on 11 and 12 December 2022 caused widespread damage necessitating emergency repairs.

Jandré Bakker, spokesperson for the department, said: “The project is scheduled to be completed by 23 April,” he stated. “Stop-and-go systems will remain in place until the project is fully complete.”
