Celebrate the value of forests

Overstrand Municipality celebrated International Day of Forests with the planting of 30 trees at the Mount Pleasant cemetery. Donated by the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (Deff), they are the first of 1 000 trees to be planted across the Overstrand. The UN General Assembly proclaimed 21 March as the International Day of Forests in 2012. The day celebrates all types of forests and creates awareness of the importance of preserving them. The theme for 2023 is “Forests and health”, which highlights the connection that exists between forests and human health.
