Harlequins crush Stormers 61-10 at The Stoop, ending the South African side’s 10-match unbeaten run in a dominant Champions Cup display.

Harlequins produced a scintillating display at The Stoop, crushing an under-strength Stormers side 61-10 in the Champions Cup and ending the South African outfit’s impressive 10-match unbeaten streak.

The hosts seized control early, crossing for their opening try within eight minutes to establish a 7-0 lead. Two minutes later, Marcus Smith orchestrated a devastating attack with a cross-kick that the Stormers half-charged down. Luke Northmore collected the loose ball and sent it wide to Cadan Murley, who strolled over unopposed. The conversion made it 12-0.

Harlequins’ dominance continued in the 16th minute when Jack Walker executed a perfect inside ball to Alex Dombrandt, who sliced through the Stormers’ defence to extend the lead to 19-0. The visitors struggled to cope with Smith’s unpredictability, as the fly-half kept them guessing with his varied options in attack.

The Londoners compounded Stormers’ misery with relentless pressure at the breakdown, winning turnovers every few phases and stunting any semblance of attacking rhythm. In the 26th minute, Jack Kenningham charged down a box kick and got a toe to it, sparking a goalline scramble. Dombrandt picked up but was tackled short, and the ball popped up for Chandler Cunningham-South to dive over. Harlequins led 26-0.

Four minutes later, Smith pulled the strings again with two excellent options in successive phases, putting teammates into space. The move culminated with Nick David crossing after brilliant interplay with Tyrone Green. At 33-0, Harlequins had secured the bonus point before half-time, leaving the Stormers searching desperately for answers.

The second half offered no respite for the beleaguered visitors. In the 53rd minute, Harlequins won a turnover and demonstrated their class in transition, moving the ball wide for David to claim his second try. The score reached 40-0.

David completed his hat-trick six minutes later when he pounced on a wayward Stormers pass and raced clear. Nothing bounced right for the South Africans. At 47-0, the contest had long been decided.

Cunningham-South picked up from a ruck in the 61st minute with no defence ahead of him. He dashed towards the line before Lucas Friday received in support and kicked forward for Zach Carr to dot down. Harlequins led 54-0.

The Stormers finally breached the home defence in the 66th minute when Damian Willemse attacked the short side with Imad Khan in support, racing through for their first points. Seven minutes later, after consecutive forward carries, Dylan Maart crossed wide to make it 54-10.

Harlequins’ offloading game created constant problems for the Stormers, who couldn’t recover quickly enough. On the stroke of full-time, Murley broke through, offloaded to Jarrod Evans, who finished well.

The 61-10 victory showcased Harlequins’ superiority as they outworked and outthought their opponents throughout, delivering a comprehensive performance that ended Stormers’ unbeaten run in emphatic fashion.
