Young horse rider Kara Taute from BRS Equestrian Centre in Riebeeckstad has completed her primary school equestrian career in spectacular fashion, winning the South African Sanesa National Gold Medal in the Open Working Hunter category.
Competing with her horse Volmoed Astrant at the SANESA South African Championships held at Kylami Equestrian Park in Midrand, Kara faced riders from all nine provinces in what proved to be a remarkable tournament for the young competitor.

Coached by Belinda Basson since the age of three, Kara began competing at five years old on her little grey pony Chief White Feather.
The deputy head girl of Welkom-Volkskool delivered exceptional performances throughout the championships.
The partnership between Kara and Volmoed Astrant secured the South African Sanesa National Novice Equitation Gold Medal with outstanding scores of 19, 18.5, 18, and 18.5 out of 20 from each judge − a brilliant accomplishment that highlighted their technical excellence.
Kara also claimed silver medals in both the SA Sanesa National Show Jumping A2 90cm and the SA Sanesa National Show Jumping Competition 90cm categories, whilst securing 14th place in the prestigious Prix Caprili.
This championship marked the final year Kara will compete with her second horse, pony Royal Dalton, whom she has now outgrown. Their partnership concluded with respectable results: ninth place in the 90cm Show Jumping Competition, seventh in the 90cm Show Jumping A2, and 11th in the 70cm SA National Sanesa Working Hunter.
As part of the Free State team riders, Kara’s individual scores contributed to the province’s overall team performance.
Her combined results on both horses delivered impressive team achievements: fourth places in 90cm show jumping, second in the 90cm Free State team category, first in the 80cm working hunter Free State team, third in the 70cm working hunter Free State team, and first and third places respectively in the 90cm pony show jumping Free State team classes.
