A German paediatrician (46) appeared in court on Monday facing charges of sexually abusing more than 70 children during his 12-year career at two clinics in eastern Germany.

Prosecutors charged the doctor with more than 130 criminal offences linked to abuse at medical facilities in Nauen and Rathenow between 2013 and 2025.

The case came to light roughly a year ago when a mother reported suspected abuse to authorities. Officers arrested the doctor and seized his electronic devices, which contained visual evidence of further crimes.

The doctor has remained in custody since his arrest.

The trial opened at Potsdam regional court, just outside Berlin, and will continue until December.
