KIMBERLEY – A former manager of Clover South Africa appeared briefly before the Kimberley Serious Commercial Crimes Court on Friday (18 September) on charges of defrauding his former employer.
Werner Veldman (45) faces charges of fraud, theft, contravention of the Electronic Communications and Transaction Act 25 of 2002, and contravention of the Companies Act.
Veldman was arrested on Thursday 17 September in Johannesburg by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team and transported to Kimberley for his court appearance.
The charges relate to the period between 1 January 2024 and 30 April 2024, when Veldman was employed as a manager at Clover South Africa’s Kimberley branch. He allegedly manipulated the company’s accounting system by capturing invoices paid in cash as bank transfers.
During the bank reconciliation process, discrepancies were discovered between cash received and bank transfers. The company suffered a loss exceeding R3 million.
Veldman was granted R10 000 bail and the case was postponed to 14 October.
