Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has issued a safety recall for 2 275 Ranger Double Cab vehicles over a potentially dangerous airbag defect that could injure occupants during deployment.

The National Consumer Commission announced the recall affects vehicles produced for the 2026-2027 production year, which were sold between 22 May and 23 June. The affected bakkies were distributed nationwide through Ford franchised dealers and also exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.

The defect involves side curtain airbags that may interact incorrectly with the B-Pillar trim during inflation. When this happens, the B-Pillar ramp can detach from the vehicle and turn into a projectile as the airbag deploys, creating an additional injury risk for people inside the vehicle.

Ford has instructed owners to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised dealership for inspection and repair. The company will cover all costs associated with the remedial work.

Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu said the recall affects a safety-critical component of a significant number of vehicles. He urged owners to contact Ford without delay and confirmed the NCC will monitor the recall process to ensure all affected vehicles in South Africa receive proper attention.

Owners can contact their nearest Ford dealership to arrange an appointment for the necessary repairs.
