VREDEFORT – The Parys Regional Court has convicted and sentenced a 45-year-old father to life imprisonment for raping his then 13-year-old daughter.
The victim, who was staying with her father in Vredefort in 2021, reported multiple rapes to her mother in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal.
A case of rape was registered in Inanda and later transferred to the Tumahole Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, with Detective-Sergeant Chris Fongoqa leading the investigation.
The accused went into hiding in 2021, and Fongoqa left no stone unturned, tracking him down, and arresting the accused in 2023.
The man had been in custody since his arrest and was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday 28 January. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
