MTUBATUBA – Eleven people died and eight others were critically injured in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a truck at 04:00 on Sunday 27 September along the N2 in Inkosi Mtubatuba local municipality.

Ndabezinhle Sibya, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal department of transport and human settlements, said the minibus taxi was travelling northbound and the truck was travelling southbound at the time of the collision.

The MEC for transport and human settlements, Siboniso Duma, visited the scene and expressed his condolences to the families of those who died.

According to Sibya, the MEC is awaiting a report from the RTI, local traffic, police and emergency personnel. He will also address the families of the victims at the scene.
