CAPE TOWN – A 79-year-old woman has been murdered in Bellville South, with a 63-year-old woman arrested in connection with the incident.
The tragic event occurred on Thursday, 19 March at approximately 20:00 in David Street, Bellville South. The victim was described as well-known within the community.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that a case docket of murder was registered following the discovery of the decapitated body of the 79-year-old woman.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. Motive forms part of police investigations,” Van Wyk said.

The 63-year-old woman who was arrested will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 March. The investigation continues.
The suspect is believed to be known to the family, according to the Bellville South Community Policing Forum (CPF).
The Bellville South CPF has appealed to the community to remain calm and allow police the necessary space to conduct a thorough investigation. The forum extended sincere appreciation to those who acted swiftly in raising the alarm.
“The Bellville South CPF strongly condemns such incidents, particularly GBV against women, children, and the elderly,” the forum stated.
