Police are investigating a shooting at a car wash in Khayamandi.

Police probe shooting at car wash, 12-year-old boy rushed to hospital

A Khayamandi boy was wounded when gunmen opened fire at a local car wash this week.

Stellenbosch police are investigating a case of attempted murder after the shooting on Monday 8 June at 13:50.

It is believed a taxi driver fetched a 12-year-old boy and made his way to the Thubelitsha Car Wash. “While busy parking the vehicle someone told the driver two unknown men were looking for the complainant,” said police spokesperson Captain Nathalie Martin.

“While the vehicle was idling the complainant saw two unknown men walking towards him with their hands in their jacket pockets.”

The men allegedly drew firearms from their pockets and opened fire. The taxi driver managed to drive off as the men kept shooting at the vehicle.

Martin confirmed the driver made his way to Stellenbosch Police Station out of fear.

“While driving, the boy told the complainant he was shot in the left leg close to his knee,” she said.

“The boy was taken to Stellenbosch Hospital for medical treatment.”

No arrests have been made and police urge anyone with information to call them on 021 809 5012/15.
