More than 150 supporters gathered for a march in solidarity with Palestinians of Gaza in Stellenbosch on Saturday 17 February. Chanting slogans and carrying posters and banners calling for Palestinians to be freed, the peaceful protestors set off from the Khayamandi Taxi Rank and proceeded down Bird Street to Die Braak, where speakers addressed the crowd. The speakers were Sheikh Ebrahim Gabriels, Sheikh Abduraghman Alexander, Mandla Mandela, Chaplain Stofile and Saaliegh Isaacs. The protest action was organised by the Al Quds Foundation and supported by the local branches of the ANC, GOOD and People’s Movement for Change (PMC). Photo: Tasmin Cupido

Mandla Mandela, grandson of the late former President Nelson Mandela, chanted along with the other protestors as they made their way down Bird Street.

Young and old waved and were draped in Palestinian flags as they showed solidarity with the people of Gaza.
