Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition
The 37th edition of the Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition delivered a harmonious melody at the Endler Hall in Stellenbosch from Tuesday 22 to Saturday 26 September. The five-day competition, hosted by the Tygerberg branch of the South African Society of Music Teachers (SASMT), reached its climax with the gala concert and prize-giving on Saturday. Talented pianist Sinran Emilie Yang (10) was awarded the Johanna van der Spuy Memorial First Prize, 13-year-old flautist Henning Bouwer won the Betsie Clüver Memorial Second Prize and clarinet player Benjamin Monvoisin received the Joseph Stanford Memorial Third Prize. The top-three were among eight musicians selected as finalists from the 47 participants aged 13 and younger who partipated in the competition.
