Four learners from Calling Academy travelled to the United Kingdom this school holiday to attend an academic convention at Oxford University.

This exciting opportunity was made possible through Calling Education‘s long-standing relationship with the Oxford Centre for Tutorial Teaching.

The learners will study sustainability through the famed Oxford Tutorial Method, a pedagogical approach that fosters independent, critical thinking and deep discussion.

They will participate in lectures, research, discussions and tutorials that will not only develop their understanding of the topic, but also their wider skill-set and confidence.

Participants will also expand their global perspective and be exposed to new ideas by engaging with other learners in the programme from the USA, India and Belgium.

The group will be accompanied by Verity Slaverse, an English teacher at Calling Academy Stellenbosch, who will also gain from this development opportunity. Locals Daniel Bless, Zinati Zisiwe, Hlompho Matubatuba and Lemar Leggett will also be joined by learners from Calling Academy Kroonstad.

Before travelling to Oxford, the group will spend a fascinating couple of days in London, where they will enjoy England’s vibrant, historic capital. The trip promises to be memorable and transformative.
