More than 20 inspiring women leaders from Klapmuts gathered at the CoCreate Hub in Stellenbosch on Saturday (13 September) to celebrate the launch of the Klapmuts Women’s THRIVE Club.
The initiative is driven by the Klapmuts Development Forum and Ranyaka Community Transformation as part of Nedbank’s Proud of My Town project. It forms part of Ranyaka’s holistic THRIVE framework, a model that helps local changemakers unlock opportunities, foster collaboration and drive development in ways that benefit all residents and local businesses.
From early-childhood development principals to neighbourhood-watch leaders and community-safety representatives the women came together with a shared vision, to form a strong local network where women move forward together, and not alone.
The launch provided a platform for co-creating the club’s identity and function. Participants brainstormed its structure, goals and benefits with overwhelming enthusiasm, in this way formalising the initiative and beginning the official sign-up process in the weeks ahead.

“This is more than just a club,” said Janine Van Kerwel, a local teacher who has been part of the Ranyaka process since 2017. “It’s a movement of local ‘sheroes’ who are committed to building stronger, safer and more connected communities.”
Amy Levendal of Ranyaka added: “This launch is a milestone on Klapmuts’ journey. It shows the power of women coming together around a shared vision for their town. When women thrive, families thrive and, ultimately, whole communities thrive.”
Klapmuts has been a focus community for Ranyaka since 2016 through the Nedbank-funded Proud of My Town programme. Over the years partnerships with local leaders, businesses and the Stellenbosch Municipality have helped shape initiatives that strengthen education, safety, entrepreneurship and social cohesion in the area.
The new club marks the next step on this ongoing journey, a space created by and for the women of Klapmuts to share ideas, support one another and lead positive change.
