Three teenagers were arrested on Friday morning (11 July), in connection with the murder of two brothers in the Khayamandi township.

Captain Nathalie Martin, spokesperson for Stellenbosch police, said the fatal shooting occurred on Thursday 10 July, when police responded to reports of gunfire in Makupula Street.

On their arrival at the scene, the responding officers found one man dead at the scene opposite Aphiwe Barbershop, Martin said. “A second person was also shot and transported by private vehicle to Stellenbosch Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.”

According to reports, the deceased are believed to be brothers, one of whom owned the barbershop, which is located opposite Makupula Secondary School.

Martin said the deceased were apparently working in the barbershop when two suspects entered the premises. “One suspect drew a firearm and opened fire on the two before fleeing the scene.”

Three teenagers, all aged 17, were arrested in connection with the double murder on Friday morning, the spokesperson confirmed.
