Illicit goods were seized in a police operation in Stellenbosch.

Illicit goods with an estimated street value of R90 000 was seized during an operation in Stellenbosch by the provincial police’s Counterfeit Goods Unit (CGU) last Tuesday (2 December).

Among the products seized were cellphone covers, tobacco paper, board games, card games, shoe polish, lubricant, hair-care products and PVC glue.

The operation forms part of a broader crackdown on illicit trade across the province, as the unit intensifies its efforts to disrupt and dismantle these networks.

According to the police counterfeit goods are a serious threat to economic stability and consumer safety as it deprives the state of revenue, but it also undermines legitimate businesses and compromises public safety.

The remains CGU resolute in the fight against the distribution of such goods.
