Collaboration and service delivery were the main topics discussed during a recent visit to the Cape Winelands by the deputy minister of Human Settlements.

Dr Elna von Schlicht, the executive mayor of the Cape Winelands District Municipality, recently welcomed the deputy minister Tandi Mahambehlala to Worcester.

“We welcome your visit today and are pleased to partner with you in strengthening service delivery to the residents of the Cape Winelands,” Von Schlicht said.

“I look forward to sharing insights on the various projects currently underway across the district.”

In her opening remarks, Mahambehlala, who also serves as the National District Development Model (DDM) champion, emphasised the importance of collaboration.

“In this room, we have all the key stakeholders required to ensure that the expectations of our citizens are met through coordinated, joint projects,” she pointed out.

In the Western Cape, the DDM is being institutionalised through the Joint District and Metropolitan Approach (JDMA).

The JDMA aims to streamline human settlements and infrastructure projects by reducing duplication and maximising impact through collaborative efforts.

Key examples of JDMA projects within the district include the Regional Landfill Site, the Economic Recovery Plan, and major human settlements initiatives such as Vredebes, Vlakkeland and

TransHex.

Mahambehlala was joined by representatives from the provincial government, as well as mayors and municipal managers from across the district.
