A 39-year-old Nigerian man was arrested in Milnerton on Monday 18 August after members of the anti-economic crime task team uncovered a major drug stash and seized cash believed to be linked to drug dealing.
At around 10:00, officers pulled over a suspicious vehicle along Koeberg Road near Milnerton. A search of the vehicle revealed drugs hidden inside. The suspect was then escorted to his residence for address verification, where the officers discovered additional narcotics, including cocaine.
Police also confiscated R101 800 in cash, suspected to be the proceeds of crime. The combined street value of the drugs is estimated at R800 000.
The suspect was detained at Milnerton Police Station and faces charges of possession and dealing in drugs. He is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
Police responds
Police spokesperson Capt Frederick van Wyk confirmed the arrest, stating: “Our members acted swiftly on suspicion, which led to the recovery of a significant amount of drugs and cash. This operation once again highlights the commitment of the police to remove drugs from our communities and bring offenders before the courts.”
Authorities said the arrest forms part of the police’s ongoing efforts to curb the distribution of illegal substances and to dismantle networks fueling drug-related crime in Cape Town.
