Do you know a local hero? Nominate them for the WCG Service Excellence Awards

Do you know an individual, team, or community project making a real difference in the lives of others? The Western Cape Government invites residents and community groups across the province to enter the Service Excellence Awards (SEA), recognising those who go above and beyond in service of their communities.

What are the Service Excellence Awards?

The Service Excellence Awards celebrate excellence in governance and service delivery across the Western Cape. They recognise individuals, teams, and community initiatives that embody the WCG values: caring, competence, accountability, integrity, innovation and responsiveness.

Who can enter

Entries are open to individuals, teams, community groups, municipalities and public servants across the province. Projects and community work completed between 1 April and 31 March are eligible for entry.

Entries close on 31 July and the awards event takes place on 16 October.

“In cases where our facilities are excelling, I make a point of praising our officials for their commitment and hard work. We do not wait, we do not ask for permission, we forge ahead in doing the best we can. We innovate and strive every day to do better,” said Premier Alan Winde.

Director-General Dr Harry Malila added: “The Service Excellence Awards are designed to encourage and promote excellence in governance and service delivery, and to recognise people who have lived the WCG values.”

Categories

There are thirteen categories in total, including two open specifically to residents: Best Resident Performance, respectively for an individual and for a team/project. These awards recognise a resident (individual award) and a team/project that has made an outstanding voluntary contribution towards improving service delivery, community wellbeing, or collaboration between communities and government. Individual nominations are not eligible for team categories.

Other categories include:

Best Collaborative Programme/Project – For initiatives that bring together government, communities, civil society or the private sector to improve service delivery.

– Best Frontline Service Delivery Employee and Team – Celebrating public servants who deliver services directly to residents with exceptional commitment and professionalism.

– Best Public Service Innovator – Recognising employees or teams who introduce creative solutions that improve efficiency and service delivery.

– Best Municipality and Best Municipal Project – Honouring municipalities excelling in leadership, governance and community impact, with sub-categories for metro, district, and small or rural municipalities.
