Morgan Cope, a Grade 9 learner at Generation Schools Somerset West, qualified to swim in the South African Short Course Championships in Pietermaritzburg in September. Cope finished eighth overall in the 50 m breaststroke heats, which earned her a place in the A-final. She, however, opted to swim in the under-15 age group and went on to qualify for the under-15 final in the 50 m, 100 m and 200 m breaststroke events. She claimed an outstanding second place in both the 50 m and 100 m breaststroke finals. Hendri Mouton (left), Cope’s coach and the head of aquatics at Generation Schools, was very happy with her performances at the gala, particularly as it’s the first time members of his club have competed at this event.
